Generational Division Is Not a Generational War
Recent headlines suggest the modern workforce is caught in a generational standoff. Baby Boomers are retiring earlier than expected. Generation Z, still early in their careers, is openly questioning whether traditional work structures are worth committing to at all. Articles and studies point to frustration, disengagement, and a growing distance between age groups now sharing the same workplace.
The prevailing narrative frames this moment as a generational conflict — different values, different expectations, different definitions of success. Boomers are often portrayed as resistant to change or ready to exit. Gen Z is labeled impatient, disloyal, or unwilling to “pay their dues.”
In between, Generation X and Millennials navigate both worlds while quietly absorbing the strain.
But this framing misses the point.
What we are witnessing is not a generational war.
